#Apichatpong Weerasethakul "Primitive" at #JimThompson #ArtCenter #contemporaryart #thai

アピチャッポン・ウィーラセタクンが横浜トリエンナーレで展示した作品「Primitive」が、2月29日までタイ・バンコクのジム・トンプソン・アート・センターで好評展示中。
私がいったのは去年の12月。洪水もあってのびのびになったけど、好評につきさらに期間延長したもよう。

内容はヨコトリとほぼ同じインスタレーションで、東北タイの村で撮ったいくつもの映像からなる空間インスタレーション。
ヨコトリよりも断然タイの方が展示の質がいい！と感じたのは、やっぱりあの通路みたいな場所に展示されてたヨコトリよりも、アート空間で落ち着いて見られるからなのか。
展示の仕方でほんと作品て変わるね。
このセンターのキュレーター、クリッティヤー・ガーウィーウォンは、90年代後半にProject304というオルタナティブスペースを運営しながら、アピチャッポンが世に出る後押しをずっとしてきた肝っ玉母さん的存在。故郷のタイで親しい友人たちとのびのびつくれたところも、いい展覧会に仕上がった理由なのかな。
ipadを使ったスライドショーはヨコトリにはなかったね。

ジムトンのアートセンターは、まともなリリースがちゃんとでる数少ないバンコクのアートスペース。シルクで有名なジム・トンプソンのテキスタイルの伝統技術と現代美術作家のコラボレーションなど、場所の特性を活かした独自の企画がゴージャス。
さらにすてきなレストランが同じ敷地内にあって、だからいつもお昼時を目がけてジムトンへは行きます。

もうアメリカではツアーも始まってるし、新しいアルバムが日本でもでたんだね。
史上初、、、って変だね。

ヴァン・ヘイレン、ニュー・アルバムのデラックス・エディションに史上初の映像を収録

全国ツアー前のプライベートライブで、新しいアルバムとツアーの発表と「ジャンプ」「パナマ」「ホットフォーティーチャー」などなど懐メロを１時間ほど演奏したそう。

Van Halen initially parted ways with Roth after the band’s biggest success: the "1984" album, which spawned the hits "Hot for Teacher," "I’ll Wait," "Panama" and "Jump." These songs epitomize ’80s hard rock at its most swaggering and playful, and Roth’s exit was mourned by the band’s fans.

Episode #141: Filmed in his New York studio, artist Hiroshi Sugimoto recounts his student days studying Western philosophy (Hegel, Kant, Marx) in Tokyo, encountering Oriental philosophy (such as Zen Buddhism) in California, and his interest in the history of Modernism—all schools of thought that demonstrate "the human ability to see things in a different way."

Central to Hiroshi Sugimoto's work is the idea that photography is a time machine, a method of preserving and picturing memory and time. Sugimoto sees with the eye of the sculptor, painter, architect, and philosopher. He creates images that seem to convey his subjects' essence, whether architectural, sculptural, painterly, or of the natural world.
Hiroshi Sugimoto is featured in the Season 3 episode "Memory" of the Art21 series "Art:21 -- Art in the Twenty-First Century".

Adel Abdessemed(wiki)

Adel Abdessemed (born 1971 in Constantine, Algeria) is a conceptual artist who lives and works in Paris, France. He is represented by David Zwirner, New York and Dvir Gallery, Tel Aviv.

Abdessemed attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Algiers, Algeria from 1987 to 1994. Due to political unrest in Algeria, he moved to Lyon, France in 1994. He continued his fine arts education at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, before completing his studies in Paris, France in 2000. The following year, he enrolled at the International Studio Program at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York.
